Predictions from NOAA station Santa Monica Pier, 26 km east of Malibu. NOAA has no station on the Malibu coast, and Santa Monica Pier is the closest one. Beaches in western Malibu are farther from it, so their tides can differ slightly from these times. These are predictions, not live readings. How we use NOAA tide data
Malibu tides on this page are NOAA’s predictions for Santa Monica Pier. No NOAA station stands on the Malibu coast itself; the pier, on the same Santa Monica Bay shore about 26 km to the east, is the closest one of any kind. The times therefore suit the end of Malibu nearest Santa Monica best, and the section on the station further down explains how far the western beaches can drift from them.
For tide pools, this page covers two state parks: Malibu Lagoon State Beach, just west of the Malibu Pier, and Leo Carrillo State Park, at Malibu’s western edge, near the Ventura County line. Under the next low tide comes the week’s tide schedule, and after it the 30-day list of tide pool days, where both parks are described.

Leo Carrillo State Park tide pools, Malibu
Leo Carrillo State Park is run by California State Parks, and its main entrance is on Pacific Coast Highway, at the point where Mulholland Highway ends. Along its shore are tide pools and coastal caves. The National Park Service, which lists the park as part of the Santa Monica Mountains area, names sea stars, anemones, mussels and crabs among the animals you can find in the pools.
The pools are around Sequit Point, the point that separates the park’s North Beach from its South Beach. How much of them you see depends on the tide. State Parks field trips here go out to the tide pools when the water allows; when it does not, the class studies the wrack line on the beach instead.
Malibu Lagoon tide pools
Malibu Lagoon State Beach sits where Malibu Creek reaches the ocean, just west of the Malibu Pier. Los Angeles County’s parks department suggests a low tide for exploring its tide pools, and describes a loop trail of about two miles that circles the lagoon, crosses the pools and comes out at the pier.
Surfrider Beach is part of the same stretch of shore. In 2010 it was dedicated as the first World Surfing Reserve.
What the Santa Monica Pier station covers
The predictions here are Santa Monica Pier’s own, with no correction for Malibu. To see how much that matters, we compared them with NOAA’s nearest station on the far side of Malibu, Mugu Lagoon, about 30 km west of central Malibu. Over 30 days of NOAA predictions starting September 30, 2026, Mugu Lagoon’s high tides came at about the same time as Santa Monica Pier’s, its low tides a median of 8 minutes later, and heights never differed by more than about 0.2 ft.
Leo Carrillo and the other western beaches lie between those two stations, so their tides should fall inside that small gap. For a tide pool walk, that means reading the low tide time in the table as approximate: reach the rocks a little before it, not on the minute.
Malibu tide calendar for October and November
Each day shows its lowest low tide between sunrise and sunset, in feet. The deeper the blue, the lower that tide. Orange days have a tide pool window; the stronger orange ones are rated very good.
