Predictions from NOAA station Pillar Point Harbor, near Half Moon Bay. The station is in Pillar Point Harbor, at the north end of the bay; beaches farther south may see slightly different tides. These are predictions, not live readings. How we use NOAA tide data
For Half Moon Bay tides, this page uses NOAA’s station in Pillar Point Harbor, at the north end of the bay. The tide pools at Fitzgerald Marine Reserve are just north of that harbor, so the predictions are made close to the reef.
That is why the page starts with tide pools: the daylight low tides in the next 30 days that drop to 1.0 ft or lower, each with a rating. The week’s tide table, the two-month calendar and the high tides come after it.

Half Moon Bay tide pools: Fitzgerald Marine Reserve in Moss Beach
Fitzgerald Marine Reserve is a San Mateo County park in Moss Beach, on the coast just north of Pillar Point Harbor. Its reef runs out almost 1,000 feet into the Pacific, and at low tide the pools on it hold algae, sponges, crabs, sea stars, mollusks and small fish. On weekends and holidays, volunteer naturalists walk the reef and answer questions.
The Friends of Fitzgerald Marine Reserve point visitors to the Princeton and Half Moon Bay tide tables and suggest a day when the low tide falls below 1 foot. That matches the line this page draws for a tide pool window. They also say the reef can be explored for at least an hour on each side of the low tide, and for two hours or more when the tide reaches 0.0 ft or lower, the days rated very good in the table above.
San Mateo County Parks asks visitors to look without touching, to leave every shell, rock and animal where it is, and not to put animals in a container, even briefly. Dogs may go on the Coastal Trail but not down to the pools. Harbor seals haul out here; stay at least 300 feet away from them and any other marine mammal. The reserve lies inside Montara State Marine Reserve, where taking any marine life is prohibited.
Coming from San Francisco
If you came here from the San Francisco tide chart, leave its times behind: they are predictions for the Golden Gate, inside the strait, and do not tell you when the reef in Moss Beach is uncovered. Use the tide pool table on this page instead. Fitzgerald Marine Reserve is about 20 miles south of San Francisco, and its parking lot is on Lake Street, between California Street and Nevada Street, in Moss Beach.
